Delta Flight Change & Cancellation FAQs
For most tickets (Main Cabin and above) on flights within the U.S. and from North America, Delta has no change fees. However, you must pay the "fare difference" if the new flight is more expensive. Basic Economy tickets cannot be changed. Our agents can check your specific ticket rules and find the new flight with the lowest fare difference.
In nearly all cases, no. Delta's Basic Economy (E) fares are non-changeable and non-refundable after the 24-hour risk-free cancellation window. This is the trade-off for the lower price. We can confirm this policy for your specific ticket so you know for sure.
You can cancel your flight by calling us. If you booked a non-refundable ticket (like Main Cabin), you will typically receive an eCredit for the value of your ticket, which you can use for future travel. Basic Economy tickets are not eligible for any refund or eCredit if you cancel. We can process the cancellation for you and ensure any eligible eCredit is issued correctly.
A minor typo can often be corrected for free, but a major name change is not allowed. This must be done over the phone. Call our agents, and we can contact the airline on your behalf to process the name correction, saving you the hold time and hassle.
You are only eligible for a full cash refund if you booked a Refundable fare, if you cancel within the 24-hour risk-free window, or if Delta cancels the flight. Most tickets are non-refundable and will result in an eCredit for future travel, not a cash refund.
If Delta cancels your flight for any reason, you are entitled to a full cash refund for the unused portion of your ticket. They may also offer to rebook you on the next available flight. By law, for flights to/from the U.S., you can cancel your ticket for a full cash refund within 24 hours of booking, as long as you booked at least 7 days before departure. This rule applies to ALL fare types, including Basic Economy. Call us immediately if you need to use this 24-hour window.
If you have an eCredit from a previously canceled flight, our agents can easily apply it to a new booking for you. This can be difficult to do online, especially if booking for multiple people. Just provide us with the eCredit number when you call.
